REAL STORY BEHIND DURANGO NATIONAL MARATHON

Orange County’s mountain biking hot spot is the Cleveland National Forest. The Warriors Society is the reason it would not be. The tribe includes mountain bikers as well as trail runners, hikers and equestrians. There are even a few Indians. This pack is dedicated to protecting and improving trails so that everyone can enjoy them. They began their work in the Trabuco District, Cleveland National Forest. Soon, their environmental conscious support for fair trail use has spread quickly throughout the Southland.

Only members of the Warriors Society are eligible to vote for their tribe. You must share the tribe’s love for the land and have the ability to ride or hike it in order to become brave. After you have been voted in, you will be given the name that best suits your personality. Rons is a Charging Horse because of his determination. Monique is known as Coup Women because she is a leader warrior who wins many battles. Monique is only seen with her staff holding her head high on the podium on special occasions. Each feather is a symbol of a person who excelled in an event or made significant progress in land access.

Monique was awarded a feather for winning the National Mountain Bike Series Marathon Championship. She also has the right to be on the staff. Ron Sawickis’ report on the NMBS Marathon is available below. More info on the highly respected Warriors Society is at www.warriorssociety.org.
