OLYMPIC RECONNAISSANCE
usacycling.org hosted the official Olympic Test Event in Beijing, China on Saturday. It featured five U.S. Olympic hopefuls. Luna Chix Georgia Gould (Ketchum ID) and GTs Todd Wells(Durango CO) were the top Americans for their respective races.

Gould was fourth in the women’s race by 38 seconds, 2 minutes and 38 seconds behind winner Ying Liu from China. Germany’s Sabine Spitz came in second.

Willow Koerber (Ashville NC) was 11th.

Wells was eighth in the men’s race, finishing as the last rider to complete the lead lap.

The men’s race was not completed by Adam Craig (Bend), and Jeremy Horgan Kobelski (Boulder), USA. Along with many others, they cited the negative effects Beijing’s air quality had on their performances. Pre-race favorites Julien Absalon, a four-time World Champion and 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist from France, Jose Hermida of Spain 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist and Nino Shurter and Ralf NAF of Switzerland were also not able to finish.
